Manchester United’s hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League were dealt a huge blow after going down 2-1 at relegation threatened Sunderland
Manchester United’s hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League were dealt a huge blow after going down 2-1 at relegation threatened Sunderland this afternoon.
The hosts got off to the perfect start when Wahbi Khazri’s free-kick evaded everyone in the penalty area and found it’s way past David De Gea into the far post for 1-0 in the third minute.
United drew level just before half-time when Anthony Martial pounced to flick home a fine finish after Vito Mannone had made a fine save to deny Juan Mata in the 39th minute.
Both sides had chances to add to the scoreline after the break but it was Sunderland who eventually found the winner as Lamine Kone’s powerful header forced De Gea to turn the ball in to his own net in the 82nd minute to give the hosts a vital three points.
The win sees Sunderland move to within one point of safety while United remain fifth in the table and six points off fourth-placed Manchester City ahead of their game with Tottenham on Sunday.
