Manchester United are preparing a formal offer for Arsenal and Chelsea target Kostas Manolas after holding positive talks with the agent of the AS Roma defender, according to talkSPORT.
Manolas made his name at Olympikos before earning a move to Serie A in 2014 where he’s continued to forge a reputation as one of the best central defenders in Italian football with a string of excellent displays for Roma.
The Greek international’s is being tipped to leave Serie A in search of a new challenge this summer and there appears to be no shortage of interest from the Premier League with a number of top clubs being linked.
talkSPORT cite reports from Sky Italia that claim Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has renewed his interest after narrowly missing out on the defender two years ago while new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is understood to have earmarked Manolas as one of the first players he’d like to take with him to Stamford Bridge.
However, it appears the London duo have some catching up to do as talkSPORT suggest that Manchester United are in pole position after holding talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives over a potential move to Old Trafford.
The report claims that United were given positive indications that Manolas was keen on the move so the Red Devils are now ready to step-up their interest with a formal offer as they look to pip Arsenal and Chelsea to the defender’s signature.
It remains to be seen how Arsenal and Chelsea will respond to the news of United’s interest but it looks like they will have to act fast if they want to stand a chance of landing the talented centre-back this summer.
Manolas would be an excellent signing for any of the English trio who are reportedly in the running as he’s been outstanding at the back this year with the Greek star ever-present for Luciano Spalletti’s side this season.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Roma will be prepared to do business but as Manolas has three years left to run on his contract, I suspect it may take big money to persuade the Italians to cash-in this summer.
