Liverpool will be looking to book their place in the semi finals of the Europa League when they take on Borussia Dortmund at Anfield tonight.

The Reds came back with a very impressive 1-1 draw from the first leg in Germany last week with Dortmund defender Mats Hummels cancelling out Divock Origi’s opener.

Liverpool followed that up with a 4-1 thrashing for Stoke City on Sunday but despite that win, the Merseysiders still sit eighth in the table and nine points adrift of the top four, so winning the Europa League is their best chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Jurgen Klopp was given a warm reception from the home crowd at the Westfalenstadion last week and the atmosphere is expected to be electric again tonight as he welcomes his former side to Anfield for what could be another very special European night.

Team news

Liverpool suffered no fresh injury worries against Stoke but Jordan Henderson is unlikely to play again this season after suffering a knee ligament injury in the first leg last week.

The skipper is joined on the sidelines by striker Christian Benteke, who’s suffering from his own knee injury, while long-term injury victims Danny Ings and Joe Gomez remain unavailable for selection.

Klopp is set to make several changes to his starting eleven after resting the likes of Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana at the weekend.

The German coaches big decision is who to start up front and he’s expected to go with Origi after the Belgian’s impressive display in the first leg with Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino on the bench.

Dortmund have virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from with defender Neven Subotic their own absentee.

However, Anfield is a special place on European night’s such as these and Liverpool are well placed after securing a 1-1 draw last week. Klopp knows the Dortmund team inside out so I can see the Reds edging this to book their place in the last four.
