Arsenal Expect To Agree Deal For Midfielder As Wenger Also Eyes 25-Goal Hitman

Arsenal are expected to complete a big-money move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer while Arsene Wenger is also back in for Karim Benzema, according to the Daily Mail.
The boss is set to revamp the squad this summer after another hugely disappointing season and Xhaka has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months.
The Swiss international has developed in to one of the most promising midfielders in German football since joining Gladbach from Basel in 2012 and with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini set to leave in June, Wenger has identified the 23-year-old as the man to strengthen our midfield options.
The Daily Mail claim that we’re prepared to pay in the region of £20m for Xhaka and while Gladbach value him at closer to the £30m mark, all parties feel a compromise will be reached and expect the midfielder to move to North London.
Any formal announcement is likely to be delayed until July 1st when the German transfer window opens but Xhaka would be an excellent first signing ahead of what is going to be a pivotal summer for Arsenal Football Club.
The fans are crying out for change following a frustrating campaign and Xhaka would finally give us some real depth in the defensive midfield department – which is an area we’ve struggled with in recent seasons.
It’s not only midfield where Wenger is supposedly ready to strengthen as the Daily Mail also claim that the boss is determined to sign a top class striker this summer and is ready to renew his interest in Karim Benzema.
The French international has long been on Wenger’s radar and with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski likely to be beyond our reach, the paper says we’ll be ready to pounce for Benzema should Real Madrid decide to sell.
A world class striker has been needed ever since we sold Robin van Persie in 2012 and Benzema would be a superb addition if we could lure him to North London, although any potential deal may hang on the outcome of his blackmail case involving international team mate Mathieu Valbuena.

I’m sure even the most disgruntled Arsenal fan would be pleased if Wenger could bring in Benzema and Xhaka this summer and with the addition of a few more lower-key signings, we could finally have a squad capable of challenging for top honours next season.
