Manchester United are eyeing a £62.5m deal for Arsenal and Chelsea target James Rodriguez who’s being tipped to leave Real Madrid this summer, according to the Express.
Rodriguez joined Madrid from Monaco in a big-money deal in 2014 after putting in a number of eye-catching performances for Colombia at the World Cup Finals that summer.
The 24-year-old made an encouraging start to life in Spain but has since fallen out-of-favour under Zinedine Zidane since he took over form Rafa Benitez back in January with the French coach overlooking Rodriguez for several key matches, including all four legs against Wolfsburg and Man City in the Champions League.
It’s led to speculation that the South American winger is looking for a fresh start this summer and it appears he could be heading to the Premier League as the Express claim that Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd are all showing a keen interest in luring him to England.
Arsene Wenger is under pressure to spend this summer after blowing Arsenal’s best chance to win the title in over a decade and with Theo Walcott’s future at the Emirates in severe doubt following a disappointing campaign, Rodriguez could be the ideal replacement.
New boss Antonio Conte is expected to be busy rebuilding the Chelsea squad this summer after a disastrous campaign at Stamford Bridge and the Italian tactician could certainly do with a talent like Rodriguez in his new-look side next season.
However, it looks as though United are now ready to steal a march on their rivals as the Express cite reports coming from Spanish outlet AS that claim the Red Devils are now on the verge of submitting a £62.5m offer for the Colombian attacker.
The newspaper says that Ed Woodward is desperate to finally land a marquee name and is ready to test Madrid’s resolve with a bid that would allow the La Liga giants to recoup what they paid Monaco for Rodriguez two years ago.
We’ll have to wait and see if this reported bid comes to fruition but I’m sure Madrid would be tempted to cash-in if United do offer £62.5m as Zidane clearly isn’t a huge fan of Rodriguez and he could use that money to strengthen the squad with players of his own choosing.

Obviously the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea could still step-up their interest and rival United for his signature while there could be further competition from abroad if Madrid did decide to sell, but I think Rodriguez would be an excellent signing for any of the English clubs.
He’s not been able to fulfill his potential at the Bernabeu but I could see him flourishing if given a more prominent role in a new team, and I’d love to see him plying his trade here in the Premier League.
