Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of James Rodriguez with the £60m-rated attacker looking to leave Real Madrid this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Rodriguez moved to Madrid from AS Monaco in a £63m deal back in 2014 after earning a move to the La Liga giants following some sensational displays for Colombia at the World Cup finals that summer.
The 24-year-old made an encouraging start to life in Spain but fell out-of-favour when Zinedine Zidane took over at the turn of the year with the French legend overlooking Rodriguez for several key games during the second half of the season.
The South American only started 17 league games during the entire campaign and was left on the bench for Champions League knockout games against Wolfsburg and Manchester City, and was once again left out for the final against Atletico Madrid.
It appears Rodriguez has had enough as the Daily Star are citing a report coming from Spanish outlet Marca that claims the attacker has decided he wants to leave Madrid in search of regular first team football this summer.
The report indicates that while Madrid chiefs are keen to keep hold of him, they won’t force Rodriguez to stay against his wishes but will demand a fee in the region of £60m in order to sell.
The Daily Star suggest that Rodriguez’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has already offered his client to United so it looks as though the Red Devils have the chance to lure the Colombian to Old Trafford this summer if they are willing to meet Madrid’s asking price.
Rodriguez would certainly be the type of marquee signing that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is looking for and it would be a huge statement of intent if United were to splash around £60m on the attacker.

Jose Mourinho is expected to be busy in the transfer market rebuilding the squad he’s inherited from Louis van Gaal and Rodriguez would give the Portuguese coach some much-needed creativity in the final third after United only managed to score 49 league goals last season.
He’s not been able to fulfill his potential at the Bernabeu but I could see him flourishing if given a more prominent role in a new team, and I’d love to see him plying his trade here in the Premier League.
