The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are set to sign Jamie Vardy…
Arsenal expect to wrap-up their second summer signing within the next 24 hours after triggering a £20m release clause in Jamie Vardy’s Leicester City contract, according to the Mirror.
Vardy has just come off the back of a sensational season that saw him score 24 goals to help fire Leicester City to a shock Premier League title win with the Foxes ending the campaign a full ten points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
It appears that impressive form caught Arsene Wenger’s attention as news broke on Friday night that Arsenal had made a move for the 29-year-old with the Guardian reporting that we’d met a release clause in the strikers contract that allowed Champions League clubs to buy him for £20m.
Talks are now understood to be well underway to get the deal wrapped-up ahead of the Euro’s with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal are expecting to get everything finalised within the next 24 hours.
England leave for France ahead of Euro 2016 on Monday and boss Roy Hodgson has indicated that he doesn’t want his players distracted by transfer negotiations so Wenger is trying to rush through the Vardy deal before he heads off with his country.
The newspaper says the Leicester hitman is set to receive a bumper four-year contract worth around £120,000-a-week, which is double his current wage, so it’s easy to see why he’s tempted by a move to the Emirates.
The Vardy deal has certainly taken many supporters by surprise as paying big money for a 29-year-old striker is uncommon for Wenger but it seems like the Frenchman is finally ready to splash the cash in order to try and bring the title back to North London.

We’ve already spent around £30m on midfielder Granit Xhaka so Vardy’s signing will take our summer business to around £50m and the window isn’t even open yet, so it looks like Arsene certainly means business this summer.
The boss has been forced in to the market for another forward after losing Danny Welbeck for the majority of next season with a serious knee injury and Vardy will offer a real threat in the final third if he does end up completing his proposed switch from Leicester.
