Gonna Win The Euros – The Unofficial England Song For Euro 2016
To get in to the spirit of Euro 2016, discount website MyVoucherCodes has made an unofficial song to show their support for Roy Hodgson and the England squad
The Premier League season may be over but there’s no need to despair as the 2016 European Championship Finals kick-off later this week so we can still get our football-fix throughout the summer.
To get in to the spirit of things, discount website MyVoucherCodes.co.uk has made an unofficial song to show their support for Roy Hodgson and the England squad.
The infectious song, ‘Gonna Win The Euros’ by The 1966 was written, filmed and produced by students on a shoestring budget of just £19.66 – reflecting the last year that England tasted success at a major football tournament.
The idea behind the song is that while supporting England may break your heart, it doesn’t have to break the bank, and hopefully it will generate some pre-tournament optimism among supporters as we head to France.
There is an accompanying video, which was produced by students at the School of Communications Arts in just 24 hours, and features ‘Gary Lineker’ in his pants as well as finger puppets recreating various famous England moments through the years.
The video promotes MyVoucherCodes’ tournament saving offers this summer – which range from cheap hotels and discount kits through to takeaway options, cut price sportswear and more.
The song was released on iTunes on 5th June and is available to buy at just 59p, with all proceeds being donated to music therapy charity, Nordoff Robbins.
Chris Reilly, General Manager of MyVoucherCodes said;
“From the Spice Girls to New Order, Ant and Dec to Dizzee Rascal, the pre-tournament songs have been big budget affairs with huge names and artists trying to make their own piece of football history. Hopefully this song shows that you don’t need big budgets to show your support for England, it’s a song made by football fans for football fans, rather than capitalising on them.
“With travel companies raising prices for fans travelling to the Euros, sports retailers providing more new kits to buy and countless opportunities to get yourself down the pub, supporting England this summer could be very expensive. With numerous discounts ranging from cheaper hotel bookings, restaurant deals, takeaway options and money saving sport offers – we can help bring the cost of supporting the Three Lions down.”
This isn’t the first time the School of Communication Arts and MyVoucherCodes have collaborated on a project like this, as they also teamed up to produce a discount version of the John Lewis advert which did extremely well.
They’ll be hoping ‘Gonna win the Euro’s’ proves to be just as popular this time around. Check out the video for yourself:
