The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with James Rodriguez….
Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of James Rodriguez after Real Madrid informed the Red Devils they can sign the Colombian for £50m this summer, according to the Mirror.
Rodriguez moved to Madrid from AS Monaco in a £56m deal back in 2014 after earning a move to the Spanish giants following some sensational displays for Colombia at the World Cup finals that summer.
The 24-year-old made an encouraging start to life at the Bernabeu but fell out-of-favour when Zinedine Zidane took over at the turn of the year and Rodriguez ended up making just 17 league starts last season while he was left on the bench for key Champions League games including the final against Atletico Madrid.
It’s led to speculation that Rodriguez will find a new club this summer and the Mirror suggest that the Colombian international has already put his house up for Sale in Madrid in preparation for a move over the coming weeks.
The newspaper claims that United are ready to offer Rodriguez a fresh start in the Premier League with the promise of regular first team football and Madrid have now agreed to do business as long as their £50m price tag is met.
It remains to be seen whether United will be prepared to meet that figure but Rodriguez shares the same agent as new United boss Jose Mourinho so that could smooth any potential negotiations over a deal.
With Colombia now out of the Copa America, the attacker is free to discuss a move to Old Trafford should the two clubs agree a fee and I think Rodriguez would be a sensational signing for United if they could pull it off this summer.
Mourinho is expected to be busy in the market and the Portuguese coach would no doubt love to make a major statement of intent with the signing of Rodriguez, and United could certainly do with his creative threat in attack having only managed to score 49 goals last season.

Rodriguez has not been able to fulfill his potential at the Bernabeu but I could see him flourishing if given a more prominent role at united, and I’d love to see him plying his trade here in the Premier League.
