International Striker Confirms Arsenal Offer As Wenger Eyes Vardy Alternative
An international striker has confirmed Arsenal have made an approach over his signature and says he’s confident of being a success here.
The opening of the summer transfer window is almost upon us so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Takuma Asano….
Japan international Takuma Asano has confirmed that Arsenal have made an offer for his services as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a new striker this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
The boss is in the market for a new front-man to support Olivier Giroud next season and we’ve been forced to turn our attention to other targets after Jamie Vardy snubbed a proposed move to the Emirates in favour of staying at Leicester City.
A number of high profile names such as Alvaro Morata and Alexandre Lacazette have been linked with a move to Arsenal in the media over the past few weeks but it appears Wenger has made a move for a lesser known striker.
The Express cited reports coming out of Japan yesterday that claimed Arsenal had made an official offer to Sanfrecce Hiroshima for the services of relatively unknown striker Takuma Asano.
Many fans dismissed the rumours as nothing more than idle paper-talk, however, the player himself has now confirmed Arsenal’s approach after being quoted by the Evening Standard as saying that he’s been left ‘stunned’ by our interest.
The 21-year-old went on to say that he is confident he has what it takes to succeed at a big club such as Arsenal but will give 100 percent even if he’s sent out on loan, should he complete a switch to North London this summer.
When asked about Arsenal’s approach, Asano is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:
“I was a little stunned [by Arsenal’s offer] but I feel like I have the confidence to succeed wherever I go.
“If I am loaned elsewhere, my take on it is that I give it 100 percent.”
So there we have it, we have indeed made a move for Asano but I’d personally be shocked if he was the only striker Wenger is planning to sign this summer as there’s no way he can be regarded as ready for first team football at a club like Arsenal just yet.
The youngster currently plays in the Japanese J-League and has scored 11 goals in 56 appearances for Sanfrecce Hiroshima while he’s also a full Japan international having scored one goal in his 5 caps.
However, it would be a huge step-up to the Premier League and I’d be flabbergasted if he is the striker Wenger sees as being his Vardy alternative. The chances are Asano would either be a squad player or sent out on loan if we do sign him and the boss would also bring in a more established name to compete with Giroud.

Who that striker will be is anyone’s guess but I’d love to see Morata come in as I think he has the potential to be a world beater.
