The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Lukas Klostermann….
Arsenal have informed RB Leipzip they are keen on signing Tottenham target Lukas Klostermann this summer as Arsene Wenger tries to ease his defensive crisis, according to German publication Bild.
Wenger was already in the market for a new defender after losing Per Mertesacker for four months due to a serious knee injury but his need for defensive reinforcements intensified after Gabriel suffered an ankle problem on Sunday night.
The Brazilian international was stretchered off in tears after going down heavily on his left ankle during Arsenal’s 3-2 friendly win over Manchester City and was seen leaving the stadium on crutches after the game.
Wenger has refused to speculate over how long Gabriel will be out for but it seems likely the 25-year-old will be sidelined for an extended period, meaning the Gunners desperately need to bring in at least one defender before the end of the month.
Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players in recent weeks but we have a new name to add to the list as German outlet Bild claim that Wenger has expressed his interest in signing RB Leipzip defender Lukas Klostermann.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the most highly-rated young defenders in German football since joining Leipzip in 2014 and is currently representing his country at the Rio Olympics in Brazil.
Bild say that Tottenham have also been tracking Klostermann for some time but it looks like they’ll face competition from their north London rivals with the report suggesting that Wenger is ‘hot’ on signing the player.
Klostermann is predominantly a right-back but he’s more than capable of playing in the middle of defence so he’d give Wenger plenty of options if Arsenal do end up taking the youngster to the Emirates.
The Germany Under-21 international is known for his strength, speed and versatility so he has all the ingredients to become a top defender and he certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

However, given his lack of experience at the top level, I’d be surprised if Klostermann is the player Wenger is looking to bring in as a replacement for Mertesacker or Gabriel so I fully expect Arsenal to still be in the market for a more established centre-back during the closing stages of the window.
