Liverpool Bid £8.5 million For Young Hot-Shot Striker

Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Liverpool have apparently tabled an £8.5 million bid for Dutch striker and in no way hilariously named Ricky van Wolfswinkel. The Merseyside club are now awaiting a response from the players club, FC Utrecht of the Dutch Eredivisie.

Liverpool have needed a back-up striker or partner to Fernando Torres for a while, and Roy Hodgson obviously believes that Wolfswinkel will be the answer to his problems. At the young age of 21, the striker has plenty of time to adjust to life in England and settle at Anfield so he can help the club out of the unfortunate position they currently find themselves in.

He is a versatile player who can also play as an attacking midfielder, but prefers the strikers role – and with good reason too – scoring 10 goals in 11 games in the Eredivisie and 7 goals in 6 Europa League games. Hodgson was able to watch the player in the Europa League, as Liverpool came up against Utrecht in the Europa League group stages. Wolfswinkel didn’t score in the two games played against Liverpool – no one did, as both games were goalless bore draws, but the Liverpool must have seen something to persuade him to table a bid.

Liverpool are reportedly the only club who have placed a bid, and Utrecht will decide over the weekend, giving Liverpool an answer next week.

I hope we go for Toivonen instead, he is a much better player and much more versatile than RVW IMO. RVW has scored a lot of penalties in his total this year. Didn’t really set the world alight in his two appearances against us and I would say Ngog is better. Got flop written all over this one.

Would be an excellent addition. Classy and versatile.
Ideally a world class winger and leftback and we’re up amongst the top again. YNWA

I agree Toivonen is more versatile and right now a better player, however Dutch youth coaches have praised Wolfwinkel for a few years now and even the National team has recognized him as a potential key part to the future of the national program. I believe him and Ngog are obviously different players and both can be used strategically accordingly to each opponent. A solid pickup particularly for next season. I agree that with a world-class left back and a crafty skillful winger would put liverpool back in contention. Possibly another center midfielder who can control the game better than lucas, like Xabi did for so many years.

Liverpool can go for future players like this but not now, i believe theres a chance 4 liverpool to still finish in top 4 provided they have a deadly striker,
i have spotted urugyan star forlan as the man, athletico are virtulay out from all competitions, we have a decent relation with madrid side, and forlan is also interested to change his sights on premeire league, may be a swap deal with kuyt will be economical since both have same age….
