Tottenham Team News: Poch Confirms Double Injury Blow But Key Man Returns
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that a key player will return for Tottenham’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow but two other players are ruled out
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to finish off a disappointing Champions League campaign on a positive note when they entertain CSKA Moscow at Wembley on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
The Argentinean coach confirmed a huge injury boost with the news that Toby Alderweireld will return to the squad tomorrow after missing the last ten games in all competitions with a knee injury.
The Belgian international suffered the problem against West Brom almost two months ago but has been back in training over the past week and is in contention to feature against CSKA – although Pochettino may decide to ease him back in to action from the bench.
Ben Davies is also closing in on making his comeback after being sidelined by an ankle injury in recent weeks but the CSKA game on Wednesday is expected to come too soon for the full-back.
Pochettino also confirmed that Erik Lamela continues to miss out with a troublesome hip injury that’s kept him out of the last seven games and the attacker has gone back to Argentina due to an unspecified ‘problem’ with his brother.
In a double blow, the Spurs boss also revealed that striker Vincent Janssen will miss the game against CSKA due to an ankle injury that he picked up prior to Saturday’s 5-0 win over Swansea City.
Tottenham head in to the game knowing they can no longer qualify for the knockout stages of the competition after losing away to Monaco two weeks ago but they will secure third place in the group and qualification to the Europa League if they can avoid defeat tomorrow.
