Sky Sports Pundit Offers His Predicted Scores For Liverpool & Chelsea Games

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has offered his predicted scores ahead of Liverpool’s game with West Ham and Chelsea’s clash with West Bromwich Albion.

Chelsea welcome the Baggies to Stamford Bridge in Sunday’s early kick off this weekend looking for another win to cement their position at the top of the Premier League table.

Antonio Conte’s men are in sensational form right now with last weekend’s hugely impressive 3-1 win at Manchester City making eight consecutive league victories on the bounce for the West Londoners.

That run of form has seen the Blues open up a four point lead at the top of the table so they will at least maintain that advantage with a win on Sunday and Merson believes Chelsea will ease to a comfortable 2-0 victory this weekend.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Chelsea v West Brom (Sunday, 12pm)

West Brom have done brilliantly so far, but it’s a big ask at Stamford Bridge. They will keep it tight, make it difficult and wait for set-pieces.

Who could have seen them being a point behind Manchester United in early December? What an achievement.

As for Chelsea, they have some very winnable games over Christmas and if they keep this run going, they could be hard to catch.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0

A Chelsea win would keep the pressure on third-placed Liverpool as they welcome a struggling Hammers side to Anfield on Sunday afternoon looking to bounce back following their disappointing collapse against Bournemouth last weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side threw away a two-goal lead on two occasions to let the south coast club secure a dramatic 4-3 win which has left them trailing leaders Chelsea by four points in the Premier League table.

However, the Merseysiders will be confident of getting back to winning ways this weekend as West Ham arrive off the back of a 5-1 thumping from Arsenal last weekend which has left them down in 17th position and just a point off the relegation zone.

Merson fears that the Londoners could be on the wrong end of another heavy defeat on Sunday and is predicting a comfortable win for Liverpool at Anfield.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Liverpool v West Ham United (Sunday, 4.15pm)

The last 20 minutes against Arsenal was just terrible and I fear for West Ham. Another 10 minutes and it could have been eight.

They are shipping goals left, right and centre and could be in real trouble this weekend if Liverpool get on a roll.

I can’t see anything other than a comfortable home win, and I’m actually being kind to the Hammers with my prediction. It could be much worse.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0

We’ll have to wait and see whether Merson’s prediction’s prove accurate but wins for Chelsea and Liverpool would put the pressure on the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and the rest of the chasing pack as the title race hots-up.
