Injury Update On Tottenham Duo Alderweireld & Rose
Tottenham will assess Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose today but are optimistic neither player suffered a serious injury during their 2-2 draw with Man City
Tottenham Hotspur will assess Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose today but are optimistic neither player suffered a serious injury during their 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Saturday , according to the Evening Standard.
Alderweireld limped out of the dramatic draw at the Etihad Stadium having pulled up with a tight hamstring midway through the second half and was replaced by Harry Winks in the 65th minute with Spurs trailing at 2-1.
It sparked fears that the Belgian international was facing another spell on the sidelines but Alderweireld revealed after the game that his withdrawal was only precautionary as he felt he could have suffered a serious injury had he carried on.
Rose was able to complete the full ninety minutes as Spurs battled back from two-down to salvage a point at City but he was seen leaving the Etihad in a knee brace prompting speculation he could be set for a spell on the treatment table.
However, the Evening Standard claim that while Alderweireld and Rose will be assessed by club medics today, Spurs chiefs are optimistic that neither player has suffered any sort of serious injury.
The defensive pair joined the rest of the Spurs squad in flying out to Barcelona on Sunday for some warm weather training and will stay in Spain until Wednesday before returning to north London to continue their preparations ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Wycombe Wanderers.
Neither Alderweireld or Rose are expected to be risked against the League Two hopefuls this coming weeks as Mauricio Pochettino is set to rotate his squad and give some of his key men a rest.
Jan Vertonghen is already out for around 10 weeks after suffering an ankle injury last week so it will come as a huge relief to Pochettino hat Alderweireld hasn’t suffered any serious injury.
The Argentinean coach is likely to start with Kevin Wimmer and youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers at the back against Wycombe on Saturday while Ben Davies should come in for Rose on the left side.
