Liverpool are ready to battle it out with Inter Milan over the signing of £22m-rated full-back Ricardo Pereira this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Pereira has been with Porto since joining the club from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2013 and has been impressing during the second year of his two-year loan spell at Ligue 1 outfit Nice.
It appears the Portuguese international has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp as the Daily Star claim that Liverpool are now plotting a summer swoop for the 23-year-old at the end of the season.
The newspaper says that Klopp’s scouts have watched Pereira on several occasions this season and their glowing reports have persuaded the Reds boss to make him a key summer transfer target.
Klopp needs reinforcements in defence with Albero Moreno expected to leave the club this summer after falling out-of-favour and a long-term replacement for James Milner at left-back if desperately needed.
Pereira is more than capable of playing on the left side of defence while he’s also comfortable at right-back so his versatility is sure to appeal to Klopp as he could also provide competition to Nathaniel Clyne.
The Daily Star claim that Pereira has a £22m buyout clause in his contract and Porto won’t stand in the player’s way if that figure is met but it’s believed that Inter Milan pose the greatest threat to Liverpool’s hopes of signing the talented defender.
The report indicates that the Serie A giants are also weighing up a bid but the Merseysiders are confident that the lure of playing in the Premier League will give them the edge over Inter.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I expect this to be another busy summer at Anfield and a new full-back is almost certainly going to be on the agenda.

Pereira would be an exciting addition to the Liverpool squad if they could get a deal agreed and he has the potential to develop in to one of the best full-backs in Europe under the right guidance.
