The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Chelsea have held talks with Faouzi Ghoulam…
Chelsea have held talks with Napoli full-back Faouzi Ghoulam about a potential free transfer move to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Ghoulam has developed in to one of the best left-backs in Italian football since joining Napoli from Saint-Etienne in 2014 and has racked up 122 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit.
However, the Algerian international’s future at Stadio San Paolo is in serious doubt as his contract expires in June and he’s so far rejected Napoli’s attempts to sign a new deal, despite reports suggesting they’ve offered to double his wages.
Ghoulam has been linked with a whole host of top European clubs in recent months but it looks as though he’s being offered the chance to try his luck here in the Premier League.
That’s because the Daily Star claim that Chelsea have already held talks with the 26-year-old about a potential free-transfer move to West London at the end of the season.
As Ghoulam’s inside the final six months of his deal he’s allowed to speak with foreign clubs about Bosman transfer this summer and it appears Antonio Conte is trying to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
The Italian coach is on the look for for an attack-minded left-back to compete with Marcos Alonso and Ghoulam would be a superb signing, especially as he’s available on a free transfer.
However, Chelsea are going to face stiff competition for his signature as the newspaper says that Bayern Munich are also keen on Ghoulam and are prepared to offer higher wages than the Blues.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but unless Napoli are able to tie Ghoulam down to fresh terms soon, it looks as though he’ll be on the move this summer and I think he’d be a superb signing if Chelsea are able to win the race for his signature.
