Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are battling-it-out to try and sign £35m-rated striker Moussa Marega this summer, according to the Sun.
Marega played his way through the lower leagues of French football during his early years before joining Portuguese outfit Maritimo in 2015 where he began to make his name.
The 25-year-old did enough to attract interest from two of Portugal’s biggest clubs and Porto ended up pipping Sporting Lisbon to his signature in January 2016.
The powerful forward was sent out on loan to Vitoria Guimaraes last summer and he’s enjoyed an excellent campaign having scored 12 goals in his 21 appearances to help the club to their current fifth-placed position in the Primeira Liga table.
It appears Marega’s potential has also caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as the Sun claim that Liverpool and Tottenham are now battling-it-out over his signature ahead of a potential summer move.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer with a striker likely to be on the agenda as Daniel Sturridge is being tipped to leave Anfield and it appears Marega is on the German coaches radar.
Tottenham are also expected to be in the market for striking reinforcements as Mauricio Pochettino needs to ease the burden on Harry Kane with Vincent Janssen struggling to make an impact following his move last summer, and the Spurs boss also seemingly has his eye on Marega.
However, the striker may not come cheap as he’s contracted to Porto until 2020, so the club are under no pressure to sell, and the Sun claim his buy-out clause is set at a whopping £35m.

Marega has experience in Europe and has 7 caps for the Mali national team but I personally don’t think he’s worth anywhere near £35m – even in today’s over-inflated market – so I’d be shocked if either Liverpool or Spurs were prepared to pay that figure.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but my feeling is that Porto will have to lower their demands considerably if we’re to see Marega move to England this summer.
