Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea close in on Tiemoue Bakayoko…
Chelsea have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko with the midfielder set to sign a five-year contract ahead of a £35m move from Monaco, according to the Metro.
Bakayoko joined Monaco from Rennes in 2014 and has developed in to one of the hottest midfield talents in Europe with the 22-year-old playing a key role in helping Leonardo Jardin’s side challenge for the Ligue 1 title and book their place in the quarter finals of the Champions League this season.
His impressive performances have attracted interest from the Premier League with the Mirror reporting last week that Chelsea and Manchester United were battling it out over his signature this summer.
Jose Mourinho is on the look out for a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and Bakayoko would have been an excellent addition to play alongside Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba at Old Trafford next season.
However, it looks as though United have now missed out as the Metro are citing reports coming from Tuttomercatoweb that claim Chelsea have now agreed a £35m deal to sign Bakayoko this summer.
The newspaper report indicates that the midfielder has decided Stamford Bridge is the best place for him to continue his career and has now agreed personal terms over a five-year contract with the Blues.
With United still fighting to finish in the top four, it appears Chelsea’s ability to guarantee Bakayoko Champions League football has played a key role in his decision to join the Premier League champions-elect.
If and when this proposed deal goes through, Bakayoko will look to secure his place alongside N’Golo Kante in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield next season and it has the potential to be one of the most devastating partnerships in Europe.

Bakayoko’s arrival would cast further doubt over the future of Cesc Fabregas – who’s struggled to hold down a regular place under Antonio Conte this season – while Nemanja Matic could also consider a move away if he loses his first team place.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it looks as though Bakayoko is on the verge of becoming Chelsea’s first signing of the summer and I think he’d be a superb signing for the west Londoners.
