Insider Claims Star Could Yet Join Man Utd Despite £35m Chelsea Move Reports

Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of Tiemoue Bakayoko….
An insider has claimed that Tiemoue Bakayoko could yet join Manchester United despite reports suggesting Chelsea have agreed a £35m deal to sign the Monaco midfielder, according to the Mirror.
Bakayoko has developed in to one of the hottest talents in Europe since joining Monaco from Rennes in 2014 and has played a vital role in helping Leonardo Jardin’s side challenge for the Ligue 1 title and make it through to the last eight of the Champions League this season.
The 22-year-old’s performances have attracted interest from the Premier League with the Mirror reporting earlier this month that Chelsea and Manchester United were battling it out over his signature.
It looked as though Chelsea had won the race as the Metro claimed earlier this week that the Blues had agreed a £35m deal with Monaco while Bakayoko has supposedly agreed personal terms over a five-year contract.
However, it seems those reports are wide of the mark as the Mirror are now citing a report from the Manchester Evening News that suggests United are still very much in the running to land the talented midfielder.
The newspaper quotes an unnamed source who’s close to the player as saying that Bakayoko remains in talks with the Red Devils and is keen to join a big club such as United this summer in order to continue his development.
However, the source goes on to say that Bakayoko wants to play in the Champions League so it would be taken in to consideration if United end up missing out on qualification to Europe’s biggest competition.
The source is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“Tiemoue is listening to some clubs from England, including Manchester United, but there is nothing concrete right now,”
“Manchester United is a big club and [Jose] Mourinho is a big coach, and Tiemoue needs a big coach to continue his progression.
“He wants to play in the Champions League and it will be a worry for a club that does not play in it. It will inevitably be taken into account.”
It looks as though qualifying for the Champions League is going to be decisive in United’s pursuit of Bakayoko so Jose Mourinho will be desperate to finish in the top four or win the Europa League.
Chelsea are storming their way to the Premier League title so they are almost guaranteed to be back playing in the Champions League next season and that could end up being their trump card in the race to land Bakayoko.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming weeks but the French youngster would be an excellent signing for either Chelsea or United and I’d love to see him plying his trade here in England next season.
