Man Utd Determined To Beat Chelsea To 25-Goal Star As Jose Eyes £160m Double Swoop
Man Utd are determined to land Romelu Lukaku ahead of Chelsea as Jose Mourinho plot a £160m double swoop for the Everton hitman and Antoine Griezmann
Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with two strikers….
Manchester United are determined to land Romelu Lukaku ahead of Chelsea as Jose Mourinho plots a £160m double swoop for the Everton hitman and Antoine Griezmann, according to The Sun.
Mourinho resisted the temptation to dip in to the January market but the United boss is gearing up for another busy summer and strengthening his attacking options is of vital importance for the Portuguese coach.
Wayne Rooney is widely expected to leave Old Trafford after falling out-of-favour while Zlatan Ibrahimovic is yet to commit himself to a new contract so Mourinho is looking to bring in two new forwards this summer.
And it looks like the so-called ‘Special One’ has already identified his prime targets as The Sun claim that United are looking to pull-off a £160m double swoop for Lukaku and Griezmann.
Lukaku is enjoying a sensational campaign with Everton and he notched his 25th goal of the season during today’s 3-1 win over Burnley to help the Toffees climb up to fifth in the table.
The Belgian international has been attracting strong interest from former club Chelsea with Antonio Conte seemingly keen to lure Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge following a failed spell between 2011 – 2014.
However, the newspaper report indicates that United are determined to beat their rivals to the signature of the powerful 23-year-old striker and are prepared to match Everton’s £70m asking price as well as offering him a bumper contract worth £240,000-a-week.
The Sun also claim that United are pressing ahead in their attempts to land Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann even if it means having to pay close to £90m for the French international.
Griezmann has become one of the best players in the world since joining Atletico from Real Sociedad and he’s scored 24 goals and provided a further 11 assists this season to help fire Diego Simeone’s side to the quarter finals of the Champions League.
It would be a major coup if United could land Griezmann and Lukaku but I have a feeling both players will want to join a club playing in the Champions League next season – something the Red Devils can not guarantee right now.

So if Mourinho’s men miss out on the top four and fail to win the Europa League then I’d be surprised if they managed to persuade both strikers to move to Old Trafford, which could open the door for Chelsea to lure Lukaku back to London.
