Liverpool and Chelsea will face a battle to sign Brazilian midfielder Thiago Maia this summer with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain also tracking the Santos star, according to a report in the Mirror.

Maia has emerged as one of the hottest young properties in South America since breaking in to the Santos first team three years ago and impressed in midfield to help Brazil win gold at the Rio Olympics last summer.

The 20-year-old’s potential has attracted interest from the Premier League with the Daily Mail reporting last summer that Chelsea had failed in an attempt to lure Maia to west London.

The Mirror suggests that the Blues could be ready to renew their interest this summer as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.

Liverpool are also in the running to secure his signature with the newspaper claiming that Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign the tough-tackling midfielder this summer.

The Reds boss needs to add depth to his squad ahead of their likely return to Europe’s top table and Maia could be viewed as a potential replacement for Lucas Leiva – who could end his ten-year association with Liverpool over the coming months.

However, it looks like Liverpool and Chelsea will face even further competition as the Mirror state that French giants Monaco and PSG have now joined the chase for Maia’s signature.
