Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are ready to move for Alvaro Morata…
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is pushing the clubs hierarchy to launch a £65m move for Alvaro Morata after making the Real Madrid hitman his number one summer target, according to a report in the Mirror.
Conte is set to enter the market for a new top class striker as he prepares to replace Diego Costa with the Brazilian-born forward tipped to make a big-money switch to China this summer.
The Blues have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks but the Mirror are citing a report from The Sun that claims Conte has set his sights on Morata.
Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo is reportedly keen to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton but the newspaper says Conte feels Morata would be a better fit for his system.
The Spanish international has endured a mixed season having re-joined Madrid last summer following two impressive years in Italy with Juventus where he briefly played under Conte.
The 24-year-old has made just 16 starts so far this season with Zinedine Zidane preferring to play Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo up front but Morata has still managed to score an impressive 20 goals this campaign.
Understandably, there has been speculation suggesting the striker isn’t content with his lack of regular playing time and the Mirror report says Conte is confident Morata will be open to joining Chelsea due to his desperation to at the 2018 World Cup finals.
The newspaper says the Italian coach is now urging the Chelsea hierarchy to test Madrid’s resolve with a formal £65m bid as he looks to be reunited with Morata at Stamford Bridge this summer.
It remains to be seen how the La Liga giants would respond to such an offer but you’d assume they would be tempted to turn a quick profit on Morata and help fund a move for one of their own summer targets.

Morata would be a superb signing if Chelsea could pull it off and I think he has the potential to be even better than Costa if he’s given a prominent role in Conte’s starting eleven on a regular basis.
