Manchester United are set to announce the signing of James Rodriguez from Real Madrid in a £50m deal as early as this weekend, according to a report in the Express.
Rodriguez has struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the Bernabeu since making a big-money move from Monaco three years ago having starred at the 2014 World Cup.
The Colombian international has started just 13 La Liga games this season with the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Isco all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Understandably, Rodriguez has been strongly linked with a move this summer in search of regular action and he appeared to say his goodbye’s to the Madrid fans at the Bernabeu when he was substituted against Sevilla on Sunday.
A move to the Premier League has been mooted with Sky Sports claiming that Madrid have offered Manchester United the chance to sign Rodriguez for £50m this summer.
It appears United have jumped at the chance to sign the 25-year-old as the Express are citing reports coming from Colombian radio station Radio Caracol that claims a deal for Rodriguez to join United has been agreed.
The newspaper says that while Madrid won’t officially announce anything until after the Champions League final on June 3rd, United are expected to confirm the agreement to sign Rodriguez as early as Sunday when the Premier League and La Liga seasons come to an end.
If true, this would be an excellent piece of business from United as Rodriguez is a supreme talent who just hasn’t been given the chance to fulfill his potential at Madrid.
He’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions and despite his bit-part role at the Bernabeu, he’s still managed to score 36 goals and provide a further 41 assists in 110 appearances, so he’d certainly add some much-needed creativity to Jose Mourinho’s side.

The United boss is gearing-up for a busy summer as he looks to create a title-winning squad and Rodriguez would be an excellent start if the Manchester giants do end up sealing a deal.
