Transfer News: Newcastle Working On £39m Deal | Everton In Talks To Sign Defender
Newcastle United are working on a deal to sign William Carvalho while Everton are in talks to land a defender….
Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Newcastle are working on a deal to sign William Carvalho while Everton are in talks to land a defender….
Magpies in for Carvalho
First up and according to a report in the Express, Newcastle United are working on a deal to sign £39m-rated midfielder William Carvalho ahead of West Bromwich Albion.
Carvalho emerged as one of the hottest properties in Portuguese football since breaking in to the Sporting Lisbon in 2012 first team having developed through their youth academy.
The powerful midfielder has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Express claim that West Brom are ready to table a formal £30m bid after scouting him extensively last season.
However, the newspaper is citing a report from the Birmingham Mail that says Newcastle are now hoping to hijack the Baggies proposed move after Rafa Benitez identified Carvalho as a summer target.
The Express state that Newcastle are now working hard on a deal to sign the 25-year-old – although Sporting are demanding a whopping £39m for his signature.
Bentiez is expected to be extremely active in the transfer market this summer after securing promotion to the Premier League and Carvalho would be an excellent addition.
The Portuguese international would offer the Magpies a real presence in the middle of the park and the fact he’s already got 31 caps for the European Champions should tell us how much quality he has.
Everton in talks with Martina
Next up and the Guardian are reporting that Everton are in talks to sign right-back Cuco Martina on a free transfer from Southampton this summer.
The 27-year-old joined the Saints from FC Twente in 2015 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular with the defender making just 6 starts in the Premier League and hasn’t featured in 2017.
Martina is set to leave St Mary’s when his contract expires at the end of June and it looks as though his former boss is now ready to be reunited with the defender at Goodison Park.
The Guardian claim that Everton are in talks with Martina over a free transfer move as Ronald Koeman – who worked with Martina at Southampton – wants him to act as cover for the injured Seamus Coleman.
Coleman has been ruled out for several months following a horrific double leg break and while Mason Holgate has been deputising at right-back, Koeman needs more depth and it seems he’s eyeing Martina.
The fact the Dutch-born defender can also play at centre-back appeals to the Everton boss so Martina could be a very useful signing for the Toffees, especially on a free transfer.
