Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham have expressed their interest in signing Mamadou Sakho…
Tottenham have made contact with Liverpool to lodge an enquiry over a potential £30m deal to sign out-of-favour defender Mamadou Sakho this summer, according to a report in the Express.
Sakho came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain and made over 200 appearances for his hometown club before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2013.
The French international was developing in to a fine centre-back during his time at Anfield but his career nose-dived after a fall-out with Jurgen Klopp on their pre-season tour last summer.
Sakho was frozen out of the Liverpool first team squad for the entire first half of the season before joining Crystal Palace on loan during the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old showed glimpses of his best form at Selhurst Park during the second half of the campaign before a ligament injury ended his season prematurely back in April.
Palace are reportedly keen to make the move a permanent one but the Express claim the Eagles have been priced out due to Liverpool’s £30m asking price.
However, it looks as though Sakho could still have an offer to remain in London as the newspaper are citing a report coming from Vital Spurs that says Tottenham have now made contact with Liverpool over the defender.
The Express’s report suggests Spurs have made a firm enquiry over a potential deal to sign Sakho and haven’t been put off by the Frenchman’s price-tag.
No further details are given about how Liverpool responded to Tottenham’s interest or whether the Reds are willing to do business with a rival but it’s an intriguing move by Spurs if these reports are true.
Mauricio Pochettino already has excellent options at centre-back at White Hart Lane with Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier all impressing at the back so it’s difficult to see where Sakho would fit in.
Kevin Wimmer is being tipped to leave after failing to force his way in to Pochettino’s side so perhaps Spurs are eyeing Sakho as a replacement but I’m not sure he’d be too keen on playing a supporting role in north London.

Wherever Sakho goes this summer he needs to be guaranteed of regular first team football if he wants to force his way in to the France squad for the 2018 World Cup finals so I personally don’t see anything happening with Tottenham.
