Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Kalidou Koulibaly….
It looks like Liverpool are trying to hijack Chelsea’s move for Kalidou Koulibaly after submitting a £36.7m bid for the Napoli centre-back, according to a report in the Express.
Koulibaly has forged a reputation as one of the best defenders in Italy since moving to Napoli from Genk in 2014 and he played a key role in helping the club finish third in the Serie A table last season.
The 25-year-old’s performances have caught the attention of clubs here in England with the Telegraph citing reports coming out of Italy earlier this month as saying that Chelsea have renewed their interest in the centre-back.
Antonio Conte is in the market for a replacement for John Terry and the newspaper stated that the Italian coach is now lining-up an offer as he hopes to finally get his hands on Koulibaly after missing out last summer.
However, it seems Chelsea will now face fresh competition as the Express are quoting a report from The Sport Review that claims Liverpool have now entered the race for the Senegal international.
Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in a dominant centre-back to help tighten up Liverpool’s leaky defence if the Reds are to be considered genuine title challengers next season and Koulibaly is seemingly on his radar after missing out on Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.
The newspaper says Liverpool have tested Napoli’s resolve with an opening £36.7m bid but the Italian giants have already knocked it back and insist they aren’t interested in selling Koulibaly this summer.
The defender is still under a long-term contract so Napoli are under no pressure to sell any time soon but Koulibaly recently hinted that he’d like to play in the Premier League.
He’s quoted as saying by the Express last month:
“It would make me happy to come and play here [Premier League], but now I have to go to Napoli,”
“In the future you never know but now I concentrate on my club and we will see next season what I have to do.
“I think I will stay in Napoli but you never know. I can’t talk about it now. We will see.”

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but Koulibaly would be a superb signing for Liverpool or Chelsea if either club was able to get a deal agreed with Napoli.
