Chelsea are in advanced talks over personal terms with Antonio Rudiger after agreeing a £34m deal with AS Roma to sign the talented defender this summer, according to Sky Sports News.
Antonio Conte is desperately trying to strengthen his squad ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League but he’s so far been frustrated in his attempts to sign a number of key players.
However, it looks like the Italian coach is close to getting his hands on one of his primary defensive targets with Sky Sports claiming that a deal which could rise to £34m has been agreed with Roma for Rudiger.
The news outlet says Chelsea are now in advanced talks with the 24-year-old over personal terms and the Premier League champions hope to finalise the deal over the coming days.
Rudiger made his name in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart before joining Roma in the summer of 2015 and he’s continued to develop his reputation as one of the brightest young defenders in Europe.
He helped Roma finish second in Serie A last season to secure qualification to the Champions League and he’s also now a regular in the German national team squad.
However, his future in Italy has been in serious doubt as he’s been the subject of vile racist abuse and understandably Rudiger has looked for a move after being left deeply upset by the incidents.
Conte has been in the market for a replacement for John Terry after he ended his long association with the club and I think Rudiger will prove to be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad if they can get this proposed deal over the line.

If they can, then the centre-back will become Chelsea’s second major signing of the summer following the free transfer arrival of goalkeeper Willy Caballero from Manchester City.
