Chelsea To Offer £150k-A-Week Contract As Blues Aim To Complete £70m Deal This Week
Chelsea are prepared to offer Alvaro Morata a five-year contract worth £150,000-a-week as the Blues look to wrap-up a £70m deal with Real Madrid this week
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Alvaro Morata…
Chelsea are prepared to offer Alvaro Morata a five-year contract worth £150,000-a-week as the Blues look to wrap-up a £70m deal with Real Madrid this week, according to the Evening Standard.
Antonio Conte is desperate to sign a new striker after informing Diego Costa he is no longer in his plans for next season and the Brazilian-born hitman has been granted extended leave to resolve his future.
Costa was still holidaying in Brazil as the majority of the squad returned to pre-season training today and the Evening Standard claim Chelsea are in talks with Atletico Madrid over a deal for the striker to head back to La Liga this summer.
Conte had earmarked Romelu Lukaku as Costa’s replacement but the Blues boss has been forced to look at alternatives after Manchester United swooped in to agree a deal to sign the Everton striker.
The Evening Standard claim Chelsea have now reignited their interest in Morata after opening talks with Madrid and are hoping to wrap-up a £70m deal over the coming days.
The newspaper says Madrid are holding out for a fee closer to £80m but a compromise could be reached and the Blues are ready to offer Morata a five-year deal worth £150,000-a-week in order to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
We’ll have to wait and see whether a deal can be agreed but we’ll be given a huge indication as to whether a transfer is close when the Madrid squad fly-out to the United States on their pre-season tour later today.
If Morata is on the plane then we can safely assume no deal with Chelsea is close to completion, but obviously the striker could still fly back to England to complete a move if a fee is agreed while he’s away in the US.
Morata has struggled to hold down a regular spot since re-joining Madrid from Juventus last summer with the 24-year-old making just 16 starts in all competitions last season.
Conte knows the player well as he played a key role in Morata’s move to Juve in 2014 and it appears the pair could now be reunited in west London this summer if Chelsea can agree a deal.

I think Morata would be a sensational signing for the Premier League champions as despite his lack of regular starts he still managed to score 20 goals last season and he has the potential to become a real star if he’s given a more prominent role at another club.
