Star Set For Chelsea Medical But Man Utd Ready To Hijack Deal With Late £40m Bid
Tiemoue Bakayoko is set to undergo a medical with Chelsea but Manchester United could hijack the deal with a late bid for the Monaco midfielder
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of Tiemoue Bakayoko…
Tiemoue Bakayoko is set to undergo a medical with Chelsea but Manchester United could hijack the deal with a late bid for the Monaco midfielder, according to reports today.
Bakayoko has developed in to one of the top midfielders in French football since moving to Monaco in 2014 and he played a key role in helping Leonardo Jardim’s side clinch the Ligue 1 title last year.
The 22-year-old’s form attracted interest from the Premier League with both Chelsea and Manchester United strongly linked with the player in the media in recent months.
Chelsea emerged as the front runners to secure his signature but Sky Sports News claim a proposed deal was delayed because Bakayoko was unable to undergo his medical due to a knee problem carried over from last season.
The news outlet says the French international is now scheduled to finally have his medical this week and Chelsea hope to wrap-up his signature in time for Bakayoko to travel with the squad on their pre-season tour of China on Monday.
However, the Blues are still haggling over a transfer fee with Monaco and the Mirror claim that Man Utd are now ready to make a late play to hijack the proposed deal.
The newspaper says Chelsea have struggled to agree terms at £37m so United are set to outbid their rivals by submitting a £40m offer of their own as Jose Mourinho looks to gazump his former club for a second time this summer.
United beat Chelsea to the signature of Romelu Lukaku yesterday and it would be a huge blow to Antonio Conte if the Manchester giants were to now derail their protracted move for Bakayoko.
Conte has grown frustrated at Chelsea’s inability to land his key targets so far this summer and it would cast further doubt over his future at the club if they were to lose out on Bakayoko to United.

Mourinho is on the look out for a new holding midfielder to act as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and Bakayoko would certainly be an excellent addition if United could lure him to Old Trafford ahead of Stamford Bridge.
