Chelsea will have to pay £89m to sign Real Madrid duo Danilo and Alvaro Morata this summer as Antonio Conte looks to further strengthen his squad
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on Chelsea’s pursuit of Danilo and Alvaro Morata…
Chelsea will have to pay £89m to sign Real Madrid duo Danilo and Alvaro Morata this summer as Antonio Conte looks to further strengthen his squad, according to the Mirror.
Conte recently wrapped-up the signing of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco while defender Antonio Rudiger and goalkeeper Willy Caballero have also secured moves to Stamford Bridge.
But the Blues boss knows he needs further reinforcements if Chelsea are to be a force in the Premier League and Champions League this coming season and they’ve been strongly linked with a number of players in recent weeks.
A new striker is desperately needed after Conte informed Diego Costa he’s no longer in his plans for this season and Morata has been touted as a potential target by the media.
The Mirror claim that Morata is keen to leave the Bernabeu after failing to hold down a regular first team place following his return last summer with the striker starting just 16 games in all competitions last season.
However, Madrid aren’t willing to let the 24-year-old leave on the cheap and the newspaper says Chelsea will have to pay £62m to sign the Spanish international this summer.
I actually think that’s a reasonable price for a player of Morata’s talent and potential in today’s market but we’ll have to wait and see whether Chelsea are prepared to meet Madrid’s asking price.
Conte is also searching for a new right wing-back to offer competition for Victor Moses and Danilo has emerged as a target in recent weeks with Brazilian outlet Globoesporte claiming recently that the player had agreed personal terms over a move to Chelsea.
It remains to be seen how much truth there is behind that report but the Mirror does say Danilo is looking to leave the Bernabeu due to a lack of first team football after starting just 17 league games last year.
However, once again Madrid won’t be bullied in to selling the 26-year-old and the newspaper says the Champions League winners are holding out for a fee just shy of £27m.

That means Chelsea are going to have to splash out around £89m to land both Morata and Danilo this summer but they would have a formidable looking squad if Conte did manage to lure the pair to west London over the coming weeks.
