Alvaro Morata is in London and undergoing his medical with Chelsea ahead of his club record £58m move from Real Madrid this summer
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Alvaro Morata is undergoing his Chelsea medical….
Alvaro Morata is in London and undergoing his medical with Chelsea ahead of his club record £58m move from Real Madrid this summer, according to the Express.
Antonio Conte has been desperately trying to sign a new front-man after telling Diego Costa he’s free to find a new club and Morata emerged as a prime target after they missed out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.
Chelsea confirmed on chelseafc.com yesterday that they had agreed terms with Madrid to sign Morata and while the precise details of the fee haven’t been disclosed, the Express claim the Blues will pay an initial £58m rising to £70m with add-ons.
The striker left Madrid’s pre-season training camp in the United States to fly to London last night and the 24-year-old’s British Airways flight landed at London’s Heathrow Airport this morning.
Sky Sports News and talkSPORT presenter Jim White says Morata’s medical is now underway and he’s backing the striker to be a huge hit at Stamford Bridge.
White is quoted as saying by the Express:
“I just think the combination of him and Conte and Chelsea on it right from the word go, I tip Chelsea to retain the title.
“I reckon he’s going to be a sensation. He’s in London, the medical is underway.”
White’s Sky Sports colleague Bryan Swansea suggests that Morata isn’t due to undergo his medical until later this afternoon but either way the striker is on the verge of joining Chelsea.
The Spanish international found regular first team football hard to come by following his return to the Bernabeu last summer as he started just 16 La Liga games last season with Karim Benzema preferred up front.
However, despite his lack of regular action Morata still managed to score an impressive 20 goals to help guide Madrid to a sensational La Liga and Champions League double.

The move to Chelsea should be wrapped-up over the coming hours and I think Morata will prove to be an excellent signing as he’s got the potential to be a real star if he’s given a more prominent role at Stamford Bridge.
