Sterling Open To Move But Arsenal Want Aguero As Part Of Sanchez Swap Deal
Raheem Sterling is open to a move back to London but Arsenal would prefer Sergio Aguero is included in any swap-deal involving Alexis Sanchez joining Man City
Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are keen on Sergio Aguero….
Raheem Sterling is open to a move back to London but Arsenal would prefer Sergio Aguero is included in any swap-deal involving Alexis Sanchez joining Manchester City, according to a report in the Express.
Sanchez has just one year remaining on his contract and has showed no intention of signing an extension so Arsenal risk losing him for nothing next summer.
City have been strongly linked with a move for the Chilean international all summer and it seems they’ve now stepped-up their interest by opening formal talks with Arsenal.
The Guardian are one of several media outlets who reported this morning that City have offered the Gunners £20m plus Sterling in exchange for Sanchez’s signature.
The newspaper says that although Sterling is surprised to be put forward as bait to land Alexis given his strong start to the new season, he is open to the idea of moving back to London – where he began his career at QPR.
However, the Express are citing Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol as saying that Aguero could be included in any deal as Arsenal are understood to be keen on luring the Argentinean striker to the Emirates.
City insist Aguero won’t be sold while Arsenal’s official position is that Sanchez also won’t be leaving even if he doesn’t sign a new deal, but it seems Pep Guardiola is determined to get a deal done before Thursday night’s deadline.
Solhekol is quoted as saying on Sky Sports by the Express:
“Manchester City will make an offer for Alexis Sanchez this week is what we’re being told. We also understand City are desperate to sign Sanchez before the window closes on Thursday.
“Listen to this, one source has confirmed to us that City are willing to offer Raheem Sterling as part of any potential deal. Another player who could potentially be involved in any deal, this is what one source is telling us, is Sergio Aguero.
“City are saying Aguero is not for sale, they’ve been saying that for a very, very long time.
“We’re also told Sanchez is unhappy and wants to leave Arsenal, although Arsenal’s official position remains that Sanchez is happy, he’s staying at Arsenal, even though he has less than a year left on his contract.”
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but it looks increasingly likely that City are going to severely test Arsenal’s resolve to keep Sanchez beyond this summer.

Aguero would be a superb signing for the Gunners if they could get him but it’s difficult to see how Wenger would fit both him and Alexandre Lacazette in to the same team so Sterling may actually be the more suitable candidate to exchange for Sanchez.
