Tottenham Star Set To Miss Arsenal Clash After Confirming Injury Blow
Toby Alderweireld is set to miss the Tottenham’s trip to Arsenal after confirming he’ll be out for a few weeks with an injury picked up against Real Madrid.
Toby Alderweireld is set to miss the Tottenham’s trip to Arsenal after confirming he’ll be out for ‘a few weeks’ with a hamstring injury picked up against Real Madrid.
Alderweireld started during Tottenham’s Champions League group stage clash at Wembley last night but limped off midway through the first half clutching the back of his leg.
The Belgian international was replaced by midfielder Moussa Sissoko in the 24th minute with Eric Dier dropping back in to defence alongside Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez.
The change came shortly before Dele Alli gave Spurs the lead en route to a famous 3-1 victory over the reigning European champions to book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
While most of the talk after the game focussed on Tottenham’s sensational victory, Mauricio Pochettino was also asked for an update on Alderweireld’s injury immediately after the game.
The Spurs boss wasn’t able to give much away but he admitted Alderweireld was a major doubt for Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace and they’d know more once the centre-back was assessed on Thursday.
Pochettino is quoted as saying by the Metro:
‘He feels something and tomorrow we must assess him. For Sunday, it’s difficult but we’ll see. We will have to assess him and then see.’
Alderweireld then offered his own update to reporters as he limped through the mixed-zone after the game and he told Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur that he has suffered a hamstring strain that will keep him out for ‘a few weeks’.

The injury will come as a huge blow to Tottenham as it means Alderweireld will now miss Sunday’s visit of Crystal Palace and is almost certain to sit out the trip to Arsenal after the international break on November 18th.
The 28-year-old could also be a doubt for Tottenham’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund three days later but he’ll hope to be fit for the visit of West Brom to Wembley on the 25th November.
