Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Double Boost Ahead Of Newcastle + Mane Update
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a double injury boost ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle plus he’s offered an update on Sadio Mane.
Liverpool will be looking to continue their push for the top four with a win when they take on Southampton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s offered reporters a team news and injury update.
The Reds boss was pleased to confirm that Adam Lallana will be back in the squad for the first time this season after finally recovering from a niggling thigh injury.
Lallana sustained the problem in pre-season and has taken longer than expected to recover but he’s back in full training and will be in the squad against Southampton tomorrow.
However, after spending the last three-and-a-half months on the sidelines, Klopp says they are in no rush to bring Lallana back in to the starting eleven but he could get a run out at some point this weekend.
The Liverpool manager also confirmed that Jordan Henderson will be available for selection after overcoming a thigh injury that kept him out of the win over West Ham before the international break.
Attacker Sadio Mane gave Liverpool a scare after returning home early from international duty after aggravating a hamstring injury during Senegal’s World Cup qualifying win over South Africa last week.
However, the problem wasn’t serious and Mane was able to return to full training yesterday. Klopp says they’ll wait until after today’s session before making a decision but it looks like the attacker will be in the squad tomorrow.
The Reds boss told Liverpoolfc.com:
“Sadio we have to wait, we will see today.
“Adam is in training now since three days or four days [ago]. It was a really long [time], it is fantastic that he is back. He lost nothing, no skills or anything. He trained really well but in the next few weeks we have games every three days and we will need him for that.
“There is no rush in it even when everyone who knows Adam can imagine how ready he is to be part of the squad again, so we will see what we do in this case.
“Hendo, yes, should be OK I think. He used the week he had in the national break, he used it well to recover from different things to be honest. Now he is on a good way and, yes, will be involved.”
Liverpool head in to the weekend action sitting fifth in the table – three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea – so Klopp will be hoping to close the gap with a win over Newcastle at Anfield.
