Key Tottenham Man Ruled Out For 5 Weeks, Should Return For Man Utd & Arsenal Games
Tottenham have been handed a major injury blow with the news that Toby Alderweireld is facing at least another 5 weeks on the sidelines
Tottenham have been handed a major injury blow with the news that Toby Alderweireld is facing at least 5 weeks on the sidelines, according to ESPN journalist Dan Kilpatrick.
Alderweireld has been on the sidelines since limping off during the early stages of Tottenham’s 3-1 Champions League victory over Real Madrid at Wembley last month.
The Belgian international was initially only expected to be out for a matter of weeks but the injury was worse than first thought and his comeback date was revised until Christmas.
Mauricio Pochettino then played down reports last week suggesting that the centre-back could be out until February and maintained hope Alderweireld would be available before the New Year.
However, it looks like Tottenham have received some bad news as Dan Kilpatrick has taken to Twitter today to offer an update on Alderweireld’s situation after he underwent his latest scan.
The ESPN journalist claims that following the assessment, Spurs now expect the centre-back to be out at another 5 to 6 weeks meaning he won’t be available until late January.
He Tweeted:
#thfc Spurs expect Alderweireld to be sidelined for another 5 or 6 weeks after latest scan. Should be back for Utd-Liverpool-Arsenal-Juve run starting in late Jan.

If Alderweireld is out for the full 6 weeks he’ll miss another 9 games in all competitions including league matches against Man City, Southampton, West Ham and Everton.
The news will come as a major blow to Mauricio Pochettino as his team desperately try to get themselves back in the top four after slipping to sixth in recent weeks.
However, the only piece of good news is that Alderweireld is expected to be back in time for a crucial run of fixtures that will see Tottenham take on Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus over a 13-day period.
