Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Huge Triple Boost + Duo Set To Miss Palace Game
Arsene Wenger has confirmed three key players are set to return for Arsenal this weekend but two players remain on the sidelines for the visit of Palace
Arsenal will look to get their push for the top four back on track with a win when we entertain Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference today and he’s offered a team news and injury update ahead of the game.
Thankfully, the boss has confirmed that our injury woes are easing as Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal and Mesut Ozil are all expected to return to action this weekend.
Koscielny has missed our last four games in all competitions after picking up an Achilles injury during the draw at West Brom on New Years Eve but the French international is set to return against Palace on Saturday.
Ozil sat out the recent FA Cup loss at Nottingham Forest and last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Bournemouth due to a knee injury but the German playmaker is also expected to be back in contention this weekend.
Monreal has been on the sidelines for the past month after suffering an ankle injury against Liverpool shortly before Christmas but the left-back is now set for a recall to the squad against Palace.
His return to fitness has come at a good time as Wenger has revealed that Ainsley Maitland-Niles is a major doubt this weekend after being struck down by a bout of flu.
The boss also provided the latest on Olivier Giroud and the striker is still one week away from recovering from a hamstring injury that’s kept him on the sidelines for the last month.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on the latest team news…
From the last game at Bournemouth, we have some uncertainties with Maitland-Niles, who was sick yesterday with flu. We should have Koscielny back, we should have Monreal back available for Saturday. Maybe Ozil will be back as well. That’s the good news.on Giroud…
Olivier Giroud is one week away.
If Maitland-Niles is ruled out then we could see Sead Kolasinac return in the left wing-back role while Monreal and Koscielny should replace Rob Holding and Calum Chambers in the back three.
