Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Bordeaux attacker Malcom and admits it’s looking unlikely a deal will go through this month, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Wenger is in the market for attacking reinforcement as Theo Walcott has joined Everton while Alexis Sanchez is on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United.
Malcom has emerged as a top target in recent weeks and it looked like a deal was on the cards when the Guardian reported that Arsenal chiefs had held talks with the players agents in France last weekend.
The newspaper claimed personal terms were discussed with the attackers representatives but Bordeaux insisted yesterday that no formal approach had been made by Arsenal as yet.
Wenger was quizzed about a proposed deal at his press conference today and TeamTalk quote the Arsenal boss as saying we aren’t close to signing the £40m-rated winger and cast doubt over whether a deal would be agreed by the end of the month.
The Arsenal boss is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“I don’t think we are close to doing that,”
“[Will Malcom join this month] I don’t think so, no.”
Malcom has developed in to one of the most exciting young talents in French football since joining Bordeaux two years ago so he’d be an excellent addition to the squad.
The 20-year-old has scored seven goals and provided a further four assists so far this season and I think he’d be a great replacement for Walcott if we could lure him to north London.

However, it seems no deal is close to completion and it’s looking increasingly unlikely Malcom will arrive this month so we might have to wait until the summer before pushing through a transfer.
