Tottenham Team News: Poch Confirms Fitness Concern + Positive Alderweireld Update
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed a fresh fitness concern ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Southampton but there’s a positive update on Alderweireld.
Tottenham will be looking to keep the pressure on the top four with a win when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a team news and injury update.
Unfortunately the Spurs boss revealed a major fitness concern as skipper Hugo Lloris is a doubt to face Southampton this weekend due to illness.
The goalkeeper will be assessed on Saturday but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be passed fit for the trip to the south coast so Michel Vorm is on stand-by to deputise on Sunday.
There was a positive update on Toby Alderweireld as the defender is now on the verge of returning to full training after recovering from a long-term hamstring injury that’s kept him out since the Champions League win over Real Madrid in November.
Pochettino says Alderweireld will undergo a scan today and as long as he’s given the all-clear then the centre-back will resume some aspects of full training tomorrow.
However, Danny Rose remains out with a knee injury that he aggravated earlier this month while Harry Winks is also still recovering from an ankle injury so both player will miss the Southampton clash.
Spurs injury news: Hugo Lloris is ill and will be assessed ahead of Sunday. Alderweireld coming to the end of his rehabilitation before integrating back into first team training. Winks and Rose still out and continuing rehabilitation.

Poch has just said that if Toby Alderweireld's scan is fine today he'll join in with some aspects of first team training tomorrow, like the warm-up, and build from there. Maybe fit for FA Cup match. Poch also said 'not too much exciting' going on about transfers right now.

Tottenham head in to the weekend action sitting fifth in the Premier League table and three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool but they can move level on points with the Reds with a win on Sunday.
