Chelsea take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. Here is our preview with the latest team news, line-ups, prediction and betting
Chelsea welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon in a clash that will have huge implications on the top four.
Spurs are currently in the driving seat as they sit fourth in the table and five points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea after both clubs have played 30 games this season.
So a win for Mauricio Pochettino’s men tomorrow would see them extend their lead to eight points and put them within touching distance of securing Champions League football.
However, a win for Chelsea would close the gap to just two points and blow the race for fourth wide open so it’s safe to say this clash will play a pivotal role in how the top four looks come May.
Team news
Chelsea will hand a late fitness test to Thibaut Courtois as the goalkeeper is struggling with a hamstring injury that he sustained before the international break.
Andreas Christensen is also a minor doubt after being sent back from duty with Denmark because of muscle fatigue but the defender should be passed fit to start.
David Luiz has been ruled out for another three weeks with a knee injury while Ross Barkley is set to turn out for the U23’s as he bids to regain full fitness following a hamstring injury.
Tottenham will give Harry Kane every opportunity to prove his fitness after the striker made a swift recovery from an ankle injury but a place on the bench is probably the best he can hope for.
Toby Alderweireld is expected to be named on the bench again despite being fully fit while Harry Winks has been ruled out due to an on-going ankle injury.
Expected Line-ups
Predicted Score
Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham: Spurs haven’t been beaten in the league since mid-December and they are the form team coming in to this match so Pochettino will be confident of getting a result. However, the north Londoners have a terrible record away to Chelsea as they haven’t won at Stamford Bridge since 1990 with the Blues unbeaten in their last 27 home games against Tottenham. On paper, Spurs should get something but they just seem to implode at Chelsea so I’m going for another home win.
