Tottenham are eyeing a swoop for Anthony Martial but will face stiff competition for the unsettled Manchester United attacker, according to the Telegraph.
Martial forged a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe during his time at Monaco and earned a move to United in 2015 that’s so far cost the club £44m including various add ons.
The 22-year-old has provided 36 goals and 27 assists in his 131 appearances in all competitions so far at Old Trafford but Martial has struggled to hold down a regular first team spot under Jose Mourinho.
The French international has started just 16 Premier League games and hasn’t started a match in any competition for almost a month since being accused by Mourinho of ‘hiding’ during the 2-0 FA Cup win over Brighton.
Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal in January has seen Martial drop down the pecking order while Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are also vying for places in attack.
Although Martial is understood to be settled in Manchester and would ideally like to stay, the Telegraph claim he’s becoming increasingly frustrated with his bit-part role under Mourinho.
The attackers current contract expires in 2019 and while United have an option to automatically extend the deal until 2020, the newspaper says talks over a new long-term contract have stalled after Martial rejected the clubs latest offer.
The situation has alerted several clubs throughout Europe with the Telegraph claiming that Tottenham have joined the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and PSG in keeping a close eye on developments.
Mauricio Pochettino has built a talented young squad in north London and Martial would be an excellent addition if Spurs could somehow lure him to White Hart Lane this summer.

No doubt United will do all they can to persuade the Frenchman to remain at Old Trafford but as long as he continues to be in and out the team, I can’t see Martial signing a new contract and it seems Tottenham are among the clubs ready to pounce if he decides he wants a new challenge.
