Tottenham vs Barcelona Preview | Latest Team News | Expected Line-Ups | Prediction
Here is our match preview ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League clash with Barcelona including team news, expected line-ups and predicted score
Tottenham will be looking to get their Champions League campaign back on track when they entertain Barcelona at Wembley this evening.
Spurs kicked off their European adventure with a disappointing defeat in Italy that saw them concede two late goals to lose 2-1 to Inter Milan so the north Londoners desperately need to take something away from tonight’s game.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have struggled to find consistency domestically too as they’ve won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five games so the Tottenham boss will be hoping to build some momentum with a win against the La Liga champions.
Spurs will take confidence from the fact Barcelona head in to the game in poor form. Since thrashing PSV 4-0 in their Champions League opener last month the Catalans have drawn at home to Girona and Athletic Bilbao while they lost at Leganes last week so boss Ernesto Valverde is under pressure to get their season back on track.
Team news
Tottenham have mounting injury problems as Jan Vertonghen has been ruled out with a hamstring injury that forced him off against Huddersfield on Saturday while Mousa Dembele also picked up a thigh problem at the John Smiths Stadium.
Christian Eriksen remains out with an abdominal injury and Dele Alli aggravated a hamstring injury last week so they miss out tonight along with Serge Aurier – who’s still nursing a thigh injury.
Michel Vorm is also still out with a knee problem so Pochettino will be without six first team squad players, however, Hugo Lloris is set to return after recovering from a thigh injury that’s hampered him recently.
Barcelona will be without Samuel Umtiti due to suspension after he was sent off against PSV while Sergi Roberto remains out through injury.
Expected line-ups
Predicted Score
Tottenham 2-2 Barcelona: Neither side is playing particularly well of late but Barcelona still have immense quality despite their poor form. You can never discount a team that includes the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho so I think Barca will cause Spurs plenty of problems at the back. However, Tottenham seem to step-up on big European nights so I think they’ll do enough to take something from this game. I’m predicting a very entertaining 2-2 draw.
