Chelsea Team News: Sarri Confirms Hazard Injury Blow + Jorginho To Miss BATE Clash
Maurizio Sarri has confirmed Eden Hazard and Jorginho will miss Chelsea’s Europa League group stage clash with BATE Borisov on Thursday night.
Chelsea will be looking to continue their 100% record in the Europa League when they welcome BATE Borisov to Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a team news and injury update ahead of the game.
Sarri confirmed a fresh injury blow with the news that Eden Hazard will miss the visit of BATE tomorrow night after picking up a back injury during the dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the weekend.
However, it doesn’t sound like the injury is too serious as the Chelsea manager went on to say that he hopes the Belgian international will recover in time to feature during their Premier League clash at Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
The only other injury concerns for Chelsea are Ethan Ampadu and Mark van Ginkel. Ampadu remains on the sidelines with a knee injury while van Ginkel is facing a long road to recovery from an ACL knee injury.
Sarri revealed that he will make five or six changes to his starting eleven against BATE and confirmed Jorginho will be among those rested as he feels the Italian international has played a lot of football over the past few weeks.
David Luiz, N’Golo Kante and Alvaro Morata could make way tomorrow night with Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Andreas Christensen, Pedro and Olivier Giroud among those pushing for recalls.
Chelsea head in to the game sitting top of Group L on six points from their two games so the Premier League outfit can put one foot in the knockout stages by beating BATE in West London.
Here is what Sarri told reporters today:
Sarri says Eden Hazard is out of tomorrow's game for certain with a back problem. We are trying to resolve the situation before Sunday's game against Burnley, he adds. #CFCvBATE
