Chiefs In London For Talks With Arsenal & Tottenham As Duo Fight To Sign Serie A Star

Sampdoria chiefs are in London holding talks with Arsenal and Tottenham over a potential deal to sell centre-back Joachim Andersen

The transfer window is closed but managers are planning ahead for January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal and Tottenham are linked with Joachim Andersen…

Sampdoria chiefs are in London holding talks with Arsenal and Tottenham over a potential deal to sell centre-back Joachim Andersen ahead of the January window, according to CalcioMercato.

Andersen made his name at FC Twente before joining Sampdoria in 2017 and the defender has developed in to one of the most talented young central defenders in Italian football having established himself as a key part of Marco Giampaolo’s starting eleven this season.

The 22-year-old is also now a regular with his country with 14 caps for the Denmark national team to his name so far and his potential has seemingly alerted a number of top clubs throughout Europe in recent months.

CalcioMercato claim that Sampdoria directors Carlo Osti and Antonio Romei flew to London on Thursday along with an intermediary agent named Busardò to hold talks with Arsenal and Tottenham over the potential sale of Andersen.

The Italian outlet says that although there is no truth in reports linking Manchester United with the defender, Inter Milan are showing a keen interest but it’s Arsenal and Tottenham who are ready to battle-it-out over a possible deal.

CalcioMercato reports that scouts from the London duo have been keeping a close eye on Andersen’s progress this season and it looks like they’ve now stepped-up their interest by holding formal talks with Sampdoria.

Centre-backs needed

Arsenal signed Sokratis last summer but with Laurent Koscielny yet to return from a serious Achilles injury and the Frenchman approaching the end of his career, the Gunners are likely to be in the market for a long-term replacement.

Unai Emery has made a solid start to life in England since replacing Arsene Wenger but leaking goals continues to be an issue for Arsenal so they may see Andersen as a long-term solution to their problems at the back.

However, Tottenham are also in the market for another centre-back as Toby Alderweirled is expected to leave either in January or at the end of the season after failing to agree terms over a new contract.

It appears Spurs are also showing a keen interest in Andersen so it will be interesting to see where the Danish international ends up if he decides to try his luck in the Premier League, but he’d be an exciting addition for either of the North London giants.
