The transfer window is closed but managers are planning ahead for January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Everton Soares…
Manchester United are eyeing a potential swoop to sign £30m-rated Gremio forward Everton Soares as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his options in attack, according to ESPN FC.
Soares joined Gremio’s youth system from Fortaleza in 2012 and has progressed through the ranks to become a key part of the first team set-up with the talented youngster scoring 15 goals in his 35 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign.
The 22-year-old has already broken in to the senior Brazilian squad having made his debut against the United States back in September and his potential has seemingly caught the attention of top clubs here in the Premier League.
ESPN FC claim that Manchester United have joined fierce rivals Manchester City in showing a keen interest in Soares with United scouts understood to be keeping a close eye on his progress ahead of a potential swoop.
The South American is predominantly a left winger but he can play anywhere across the final third including through the middle so Soares’s versatility would make him a very useful asset for Mourinho if United were able to get a deal agreed.
The report says the forward signed a new contract recently that ties him to Gremio until 2022 and includes a release clause worth £53m [€60m], however, ESPN FC claim Soares is valued at closer to £30m.
That sort of money shouldn’t discourage a club with the financial resources of Manchester United so they should be in a strong position to close out a deal if Mourinho decides to press ahead with a move for Soares.
The Portuguese coach was disappointed with the lack of investment in the summer and he knows United need to strengthen if they’re to compete with the likes of Manchester City for the title any time soon.
While Mourinho is reportedly keen on adding a centre-back to his ranks, he could also do with more threat going forward as United have lacked a spark in the final third at times this season so Soares could be a very useful addition if he moves to Old Trafford.
