Tottenham Confirm Huge Injury Boost But 4 Players Ruled Out Of Chelsea Clash
Tottenham have confirmed a huge injury boost but Mauricio Pochettino will be without four other players for the visit of Chelsea this weekend.
This weekend’s big game sees Tottenham entertain Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday evening.
Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a full team news update including some positive news on Jan Vertonghen.
The Belgian international has been on the sidelines since the end of September due to a serious hamstring injury but the centre-back stepped-up his recovery after returning to full training earlier this month.
Pochettino has confirmed Vertonghen is now in-line to make his return to first team action against Chelsea this weekend as long as he comes through Friday’s final training session unscathed.
Speaking earlier today on Vertonghen’s return, Pochettino told TottenhamHotspur.com:
“We have another training session tomorrow but all the signals are very good.
“It’s very good news. In the last two weeks he’s been fully integrated into the group and, yes, we hope he can be available to start and to help the team.”
Vertonghen’s availability would come as a huge boost as he was a key part of Pochettino’s starting eleven before his injury and his return coincides with Davinson Sanchez being ruled out of action.
The Colombian international had been deputising superbly well for Vertonghen during his absence but the north Londoners have confirmed on TottenhamHotspur.com that scans show Sanchez has suffered a hamstring strain and he may not be back before the New Year.
Spurs will continue to be without Mousa Dembele on Saturday as the midfielder is undergoing rehab in Qatar having suffered ankle ligament damage during the win over Wolves before the international break.
Pochettino was dealt a fresh blow earlier this month after Kieran Trippier was ruled out with a groin injury that he sustained during the win over Crystal Palace and the right-back is hoping to return to training before the end of November.
The fourth Tottenham player ruled out of the Chelsea game is Danny Rose as the left-back is still working his way back from a groin injury that’s hampered him in recent weeks. However, Rose is hoping to return to full training soon.
Tottenham head in to the weekend action sitting fourth in the table but they can climb above Chelsea in to third with a win at Wembley on Saturday.
