Liverpool Team News Update: Klopp Confirms Key Duo Are Doubts For Burnley Trip
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed two key players are doubts for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.
Liverpool will be looking for a win to maintain the pressure on Manchester City when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a team news and injury update including the latest on Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson.
Mane played the full ninety minutes as Liverpool scored deep in to stoppage time to secure a dramatic 1-0 victory over Everton on Sunday afternoon but Klopp has confirmed he suffered a nasty cut to his foot during that match at Anfield.
The Senegalese international required stitches to heal the wound and has been forced to walk around in flip-flops so Klopp says the medical team will need to assess the attacker before his availability tomorrow night is determined.
In a double concern for Liverpool, Klopp also confirmed that Robertson is a doubt to face Burnley as he will need a late fitness check after the left-back suffered a hip problem during the Merseyside derby on Sunday.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“Sadio and Robbo we need to have another look at today. Sadio really had an awful cut on his foot. It needed to be stitched; he is OK but walking around here now in flip-flops and you don’t play in flip-flops! We will see later.
“With Robbo it is not that serious as with Sadio, but we need to have a look.”
Elsewhere, Adam Lallana could return to the squad after missing out with a muscle problem in recent games but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still working his way back to full fitness from a serious knee ligament injury.
Liverpool head in to the Burnley game sitting two points adrift of Man City but the defending champions could extend their advantage to five points if they beat Watford this evening so Klopp will be desperate to come home with all three points from Turf Moor.
