Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Double Boost But 7 Players Set To Miss Out
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a double boost ahead of the trip to Bournemouth but seven other players will miss out
Liverpool will be desperate for a win to maintain the pressure at the top of the table when they take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a full team news and injury update including the latest on nine of his squad members.
Let’s start with the positive news and Klopp has confirmed that Andrew Robertson is set to return to action this weekend after being rested for the midweek win at Burnley due to a dead leg.
In a double boost, the Reds boss also revealed that Georginio Wijnaldum will be available for selection against Bournemouth after not featuring at Turf Moor on Wednesday night due to a ‘nothing’ issue that saw him train on his own earlier this week.
However, Klopp has plenty of problems elsewhere as Sadio Mane remains a major doubt this weekend after missing the Burnley game with a nasty cut on his foot that he sustained during the Merseyside derby win over Everton last weekend. The attacker will be assessed at training today but Klopp isn’t confident he’ll be available tomorrow.
Liverpool are low on options at the back as Dejan Lovren remains out having not recovered from the concussion he suffered in training last week while Nathaniel Clyne remains out with an unspecified injury that’s already kept him out for the past two weeks.
Joe Gomez is obviously unavailable after being ruled out for six weeks with a fractured leg that he sustained against Burnley in midweek while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rhian Brewster and Dominic Solanke are also still on the sidelines – although Klopp hopes Solanke will be back in training on Sunday.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“Sadio is now out [at Melwood] and tries to run [for the] first time. That doesn’t sound like he will be ready for tomorrow. Hopefully he can finish the programme today we did for him.
“Gini is nothing – he did his own programme [this week] and is fine. Robbo played pretty much most of the games, in a very intense position. That’s why we decided to give him eight hours off. That was actually the only thing, he was not in Burnley.
“He trained in the morning and went home. He couldn’t watch the game [on TV]; he was sitting in front of the radio or whatever and came back. He is fine.”
“No, he [Lovren] will not be available. He got a knock last week and got a concussion. He is still not able to play.”
“Clyney has been out for already two weeks, it’s nothing serious but he is not in training and not available as well,”
“Joe [Gomez] obviously, Oxlade, Rhian Brewster and Dom Solanke [are out]. But Dom is close; I really hope he will be in team training again from Sunday on. But we have to see.”
Klopp is expected to rotate his squad once again ahead of next weeks crucial Champions League clash with Napoli so the likes of Fabinho, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are pushing for recalls against Bournemouth.
