Liverpool vs Man Utd Preview | Latest Team News | Expected Line-Ups | Prediction

This is our match preview ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Man Utd including team news, expected line-ups and predicted score

Liverpool will be looking to leapfrog Manchester City to the top of the table with a win when Manchester United visit Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Defending Premier League champions City reclaimed top spot with a 3-1 victory over Everton this afternoon but Liverpool can move one point clear of Pep Guardiola’s side if they win their game in hand tomorrow.

Jurgen Klopp’s men should be in buoyant mood after booking their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Napoli in midweek while they maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a resounding win at Bournemouth last weekend.

Liverpool will welcome a beleaguered Man Utd outfit to Merseyside as the Manchester giants continued their inconsistent form this season with a hugely disappointing 2-1 defeat to Valencia in Spain on Wednesday night.

United still qualified for the last-16 of the Champions League but Jose Mourinho will know they’ll need to produce a much better performance on Sunday if they want to take anything away from Anfield.

Man Utd also desperately need a win to prevent themselves from being further cut off from the top four as they head in to the game sitting sixth in the table – eight points off fourth-placed Chelsea – so they could find themselves eleven adrift if they lost at Liverpool and Chelsea beat Brighton tomorrow.

Team news

Liverpool have problems in defence as Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out with a foot injury while Joel Matip is set for a spell on the sidelines with a broken collarbone.  With Joel Gomez also out, James Milner could start at right-back as the fit-again Nathaniel Clyne hasn’t played since September.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Dejan Lovren, Naby Keita and Fabinho are all pushing for recalls after being left out against Napoli in midweek.

Man Utd will need to make late decisions over a number of players as Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Scott McTominay are all carrying knocks. Mourinho is confident at least some of them will be fit.

Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez are certain to miss out with hamstring injuries but David De Gea, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Ashley Young will all be recalled.

Predicted Score

Liverpool 2-1 Man Utd: Liverpool are understandably the red-hot favourites as they come into the game as the form team and United have been poor for much of the season. However, I don’t see this being a walk-over by any means as Liverpool are winless in their last eight league games against United and Mourinho has an excellent record at Anfield. The Man Utd players have to turn up tomorrow and I do think they’ll give Liverpool a decent game, but ultimately I think Klopp’s side will prove too strong.
