Liverpool Boost As Klopp Confirms Key Man Will Be Fit To Face Newcastle & Arsenal
Liverpool have confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit to take on Newcastle and Arsenal after making a swift recovery from a foot injury.
Liverpool have confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit to take on Newcastle United and Arsenal over the festive period after making a swift recovery from a foot injury.
Alexander-Arnold picked up the injury during the closing stages of Liverpool’s dramatic 1-0 victory over Napoli at Anfield last week, which booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League and a date with Bayern Munich in the last-16.
The 20-year-old was forced to miss Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon and we’ve been waiting for an update from the Merseysiders as to how long the full-back will be on the sidelines for.
Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Wolves on Friday night and the Reds boss has provided some positive news on Alexander-Arnold’s condition.
Klopp confirmed that the England international is already making good progress and while Friday’s trip to Molineux will come too soon, Alexander-Arnold is expected to be in contention for the subsequent games against Newcastle and Arsenal after Christmas.
When asked for an update on the defender, Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“It actually looks surprisingly good, I think Wolves will still be a bit too early but after that, they told me we can think about him.
“But for that, he needs to train. So far he didn’t train but the pain goes down second by second, which is good, and then in the moment when he can deal with it, he is on the pitch, and in the moment he is on the pitch we’ll make a decision. But it looks good for Trent.”
This will come as a major boost for Liverpool as Alexander-Arnold has been a key player for them this season having made 18 appearances in all competitions this campaign and Klopp will be pleased to have him available to take on Newcastle and Arsenal later this month.
With Joe Gomez still nursing a fractured leg and James Milner carrying a muscle problem, Liverpool are short at right-back so they could certainly do with Alexander-Arnold being available over the festive period.
Nathaniel Clyne could continue at right-back against Wolves on Friday after a terrific performance against United but Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain on the sidelines.
